Natasha Townsend
Resident in Counseling, M.Ed.
Hi, my name is Natasha!
I have worked in outpatient mental health and intensive in-home settings for the past couple of years. I strongly believe that health is holistic, that when we are physically and mentally safe, we can thrive in our environments. My most important goal is to provide a strong sense of safety for clients, because processing thoughts and emotions is very vulnerable!
I strongly believe that health is holistic, that when we are physically and mentally safe, we can thrive in our environments.
I enjoy using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and incorporated mindfulness and somatic exercises in sessions. My previous work has allowed me to work with children as young as five to adults who were retired. I have also worked with couples using emotion-focused techniques to facilitate increased awareness of negative relationship cycles and develop skills to strengthen positive relational interactions.
During my experiences in intensive in-home counseling, I worked with families with children in middle and high school. This environment was where I began to learn more about attachment-focused theories, where the main goals were to use playfulness, acceptance, curiosity, and empathy to foster increased emotional communication among family members, enhance positive experiences together, and strengthen the feelings of safety within the family. Through this work, I realized the positive impact on family relationships when interacting with families in this way myself and my identity as a counselor is strongly based in these values.
I specialize in treating individuals (13+) with:
Academic stressors
Adjustment and life transitions
Anxiety
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
Depression
Mood dysregulation
Self-esteem
Stress management
Trauma
I am committed to social justice and am an ally of the LGBTQ+ community.
